So, the books tell you learn to visualize to manifest what
it is you want. That however is not just day dreaming or wishful thinking.
There is more to it than that.
Take the true story of Jim Carey. The crazy bloke in ‘Dumb
and Dumber’ and ‘The Mask’ movies. It may not be related to your career or
business but it certainly highlights the point very well.
In 1985, Jim Carey was ‘A Nobody’ in acting terms struggling
to just survive in Los Angeles.
The story goes that each night he would go through the
exercise of visualization by driving up Mulholland Drive and imagining himself
working with all the noted directors, best actors and being congratulated by
them on his work. I’m sure that feeling felt good to him being patted on the
back and receiving accolades from the industry. However, it was just a dream, a
wish, nothing more at that time.
He also is allegedly to have written himself out a
nice little cheque for the cool sum of a $10
million and placed it inside his wallet. Thus setting his intention out there
to the universe.
Each day he would take it out and look at it, focusing
on the future he wanted to bring about.
That meant finding ways to get opportunities in front of himself and his
acting career on the launch pad. The image in his mind burning daily was that
one day he would be paid $10 million by someone for doing something he loved.
Nine years after writing that cheque he was offered $10 million to appear in the movie Dumb and Dumber.
Now that is the kind of visualization that makes you
think does it not?
But as Jim Carey himself said, ‘You also have to take
action; you can’t just imagine it and then do nothing’. Thought or desire without
action is worthless.
However, consider the combination of desire and belief
in something and of course that catalyst ingredient – ‘action’ – That is what
brought that cheque of $10
million into reality.
But it won’t happen to bring your dream to reality if
you take no action and do nothing. There are plenty of daydreamers out there. You
need to be very active and persistent about what it is you want. Do something
even if it is the smallest thing as long as it is in the direction of realizing
your dream.
Now, if you really want that dream you must help it grow
from mere thought.
So, take action today and
take it now. The first step is always the hardest but without it you are going
nowhere.
